Impression painting series

Getting Sleepy
Untitled
Jubilee

With these digital impression paintings, I am free to enter this dream-like world, where there are no rules in the creation process. Although I love drawing charcoal portraits, sometimes I get stressed because it has to look a certain way. But when I paint my digital scenes, I feel like I can’t do anything wrong. A simple brush stroke becomes a butterfly in motion. You don’t have to see it clearly, it’s the movement that makes it real.

My process
I didn’t sketch before the painting, or have a concrete image in mind. The finished piece is just as much a surprise to me as it is to my viewers. These paintings came from my mind – I wasn’t observing a real scene in natural light, like the impressionists did, but the end result reminds me of an impressionist painting. Some of them are inspired by Monet and other artists I found online, like Claudia Limacher. I look at scenery or other artwork for ideas, but many times the painting just comes.

Flower Garden series

With these garden paintings, my process is similar to the series above – I paint one stroke at a time and see where it leads me. A few of these were inspired by Anne Ten Donkeklaar’s flower constructions.
